Chilean salmon farmers Los Fiordos celebrate delivery of 300 tonne-capacity feed barge

New feed barge is first order of thirteen by 2019.

On Wednesday December 5, a ceremony was held (with a priest) for Los Fiordos’ new vessel at the Astilleros Detroit shipyard located in Chinquihue, commune of Puerto Montt, Los Lagos region, Chile.

“This is the first of thirteen feed barges that will become part of Los Fiordos for next year,” the company said in a press release.

The new feed barge “Fiordos 57”, will be going to a new farm in the Aysén region, heart of Chile’s busiest salmon farming region. It’ll begin operations in January 2019.

The structure was designed and built by Astilleros Detroit. It consists of four levels with a capacity for 300 tonnes of feed.

Friosur is owned by Chile food giants, Agrosuper.
