Land-based fish farmer Columbi Salmon has appointed Jean-Noël Calon as EVP of operation and business development activites in France and Belgium.

“We’re pleased to welcome Jean-Noël to the Columbi Salmon team to drive our development in France and Belgium, key markets for our land-based sustainable salmon farming operations. Jean-Noël brings decades of experience from business development and will lead our growth and expansion initiatives in key markets for sustainable salmon in the time to come. We have high ambitions for the French market, and this recruitment will be instrumental in that regard” said Anders Hagen, CEO of Columbi Salmon, in a press release.

After studying political science in Paris, Calon has worked for local governments in economic development and communications, in addition to facilitating US investment initiatives in Northern France.

“I grew up connected to fisheries through my father and uncles all serving as skippers in the English Channel and North Sea, and I look forward to join the Columbi team in developing the next-generation fish industry, leveraging on the local competence in Boulogne-sur-mere and launching our sustainable salmon to Europe’s high-end customers,“ said Jean-Noël Calon.

Calon will support Columbi Salmon as they establish a land-based setup for salmon farming in Oostende, Belgium.

Over the coming years, the company will establish further production facilities throughout Europe, and aims to produce 15,000-20,000 tonnes of sustainable food yearly by 2023-24.
