COVID-19 outbreak at salmon processor halts operations

“Intense procedure” finds 32 cases. 23 workers were reported yesterday.

Radio Sago reports that the Chilean salmon farmer and processor Invermar has had to put its operations on ice to test all its workers for COVID-19.

The site is based in Llau llao, which is in the Los Lagos region.

Invermar said that “after this intense procedure, we can confirm that we have 32 active cases in our plant, all isolated and complying with preventive quarantine”.

The company is testing in two groups and reported that they expect Shift A to return its functions as soon as possible and that the results of the tests carried out on shift B will be available by Thursday.

The local major said that the salmon facilty is being monitored by authorities.
