Authorities investigating death at AquaChile site.

Biobiochile reports that authorities are investigating the death of a diver who died at an AquaChile site in Melinka, in the Aysén region of Southern Chile.

The incident happened on Friday. The victim was 41 years old.

Police said that the preliminary cause of death was suffocation by decompression sickness. Colleagues attempted to resuscitate the man, but he was apparently without vital signs.

The Captaincy of Puerto de Melinka initiated a maritime-administrative investigation that will run in parallel with that of the police.

Also, from AquaChile they released that “we deeply regret the death of Andrés Alejandro Teigel Coliague, worker of the company SGM Austral. SGM Austral is a company specialized in engineering and anchoring work that is currently enabled by the Maritime Authority”.

La Terram published a response from AquaChile on Wednesday post-publication of this article. The company said that it deeply regrets the death of the worker from SGM Austral.

“SGM Austral is a company specialized in engineering and anchoring work that is currently employed by the Maritime Authority,” the salmon farmer wrote.

“At the time of the unfortunate accident, the company provided material transfer services from an unused licence to another unused licence. These tasks are always supervised by the Maritime Authority. Although the sea licence belongs to AquaChile, at the time of the accident it was empty, without fish, or company operations,” added AquaChile.
