Arctic Offshore Farming has reported an escape event at its Fellesholmen site in Tromsø municipality, Troms, according to a statement from the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries on Thursday.

The incident involves a significant tear in the net at the facility, though the cause and extent of the escape have yet to be determined. The Directorate has initiated an inspection and plans to conduct a physical site visit later today.

The company has deployed recapture nets in the surrounding waters. The escaped fish, with an average weight of approximately 2 kilograms, are being targeted for retrieval.

The Directorate is urging the public to report any sightings or catches of farmed salmon in the area to aid in recapture efforts. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
