Ex Mowi director joins Garware

Alan Sutherland will start as country manager Scotland, a new position, on the 1st of July.

Former Mowi Scotland MD Alan Sutherland will bring four decades of aquaculture experience to Garware Technical when he joins the netting and ropes manufacturing company.

The Indian company is the world’s largest producer of innovative aquaculture cage nets, lice shield, ropes for many of the world’s major fish farmers.

Working initially with rainbow trout in 1982, Sutherland moved into Atlantic salmon in 1997, working mostly in Scotland but also spending four years in Canada and the US.

Sutherland has held various senior roles in the aquaculture sector including nine years as Marine Harvest Scotland (now MOWI) and has been involved in various aquaculture-based consultancy projects and board appointments, including producing Tilapia in Africa and Barramundi in Iowa.

Throughout his career, Sutherland has maintained a strong interest in innovation.

“Garware’s positive approach and a strong commitment to product development are seen by Alan as an excellent opportunity to continue to be involved in and support the business in Scotland,” wrote Garware in a press release.

“In collaboration with our Scottish partner W&J Knox, Alan will further support & develop the aquaculture market for our next exciting innovation, which will be unfolding in the very near future,” said Kanwal Malik, Garware’s European Sales Manager.
