Expansion at Marine Harvest Pieters for valorisation of by-products

Belgian wholesaler Marine Harvest Pieters, located in the city of Bruges, is reconstructing its production site.

“We are creating more production space and a better logistic connection between the preparatory department and the packaging department,” said plant manager Pieter Note.

“We are also expanding our machinery, in order to be able to apply other techniques for the realizing the value of by-products.”

Ready-to-eat products are not produced at Marine Harvest Pieters in Bruges. “We only produce ready-to-cook products. That is a conscious choice,” Note explained.

“For the production of ready to eat convenience products other quality rules and regulations apply.”

Presence in Germany

Future plans are focussing on expanding the company’s presence in the German market, in cooperation with Marine Harvest operations in Germany, added Note.

“Germany is a big market. I believe there will be lots of possibilities for us, especially with our coated products.”

Marine Harvest Pieters was founded in 1953 by Jerome Pieters, as a fish transporting company. Over the years Pieters evolved into a complete fish wholesaler, with focus on fresh and smoked salmon. Since 2006 Pieters has been part of the Marine Harvest Group.
