Aquaculture is the fastest growing food-producing sector. It accounts for almost 50 percent of fish consumed globally.

The need to exchange reliable information on all related subjects is becoming a key issue for the responsible management of aquaculture, according to the FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Department.

Relevant material

In order to provide easily-accessible and up-to-date information, this department has developed specific pages on aquaculture with relevant material on aquaculture at international, regional and national levels.

Fact Sheets

The database provides both fact sheets on aquaculture and statistical information. The fact sheets contain a synthesis of detailed knowledge on specific subjects and include related statistics, graphics and profiles, derived from the FAO Fishstat Plus database.

The database also covers information on different aquaculture sectors, legislation and cultured species.
