First Water appoints former Arnarlax exec as Head of Sales and Marketing

Icelandic land-based salmon producer First Water has appointed Ómar Grétarsson as its new head of sales and marketing.

Grétarsson brings over a decade of experience in the salmon farming industry, having previously worked as a sales manager at Fjardalax and later Arnarlax following the companies’ merger in 2016. He holds a bachelor’s degree in food science from the University of Iceland and an MBA from the University of Reykjavík.

Commenting on the appointment, Eggert Þór Kristófersson, CEO of First Water, stated: “We are pleased to welcome Ómar to our team. His extensive experience in the salmon farming industry is a valuable asset, especially as we continue to develop our operations. We take great pride in balancing quality, nutrition, and environmental sustainability in our production, and Ómar understands and aligns with these values.”

First Water’s operations are based in Þorlákshöfn and are being developed in six phases, with construction expected to be completed by 2029. The company plans to produce around 1,500 tons of salmon by the end of the year and employed around 200 people during the summer.

Grétarsson expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, saying, “I am excited to bring my passion and experience in sales and marketing, particularly in Icelandic salmon, to First Water. I see this as a great opportunity to contribute to the company’s ambitious plans and continue to grow within the industry.”
