Balance between supply and demand.

“It hasn’t fully settled yet,” a buyer tells SalmonBusiness.

“3-4 kg has been very tough this week, dragging down 4-5 kg. Prices are at NOK 66-67 ($6.07/€5.61) for 3-4 kg, NOK 69-70 ($6.35/€5.95) for 4-5 kg, and 5-6 kg is holding around NOK 73 ($6.72/€6.20),” he adds, expecting a long afternoon of trading.

Several sources confirm a market waiting for clear signals.

“We haven’t sold much, but see NOK 69-70 ($6.35/€5.95) for 3-4 kg, NOK 73-74 ($6.72/€6.29) for 4-5 kg, and NOK 76.50-77 ($7.04/€6.55) for 5-6 kg. Sizes above 6 kg are at NOK 85 ($7.82/€7.23), while 2-3 kg is around NOK 60 ($5.52/€5.10),” says a salmon farmer, noting a stable market balance for three weeks.

“Lice remains a challenge, but treatments aren’t around the clock.”

With relatively stable prices, he concludes: “Prices this week seem flat.”

Another farmer notes slightly higher Oslo prices, with delivery prices per kg (including NOK 2 in shipping):

  • 3-4 kg at NOK 75 ($6.90/€6.38)
  • 4-5 kg at NOK 78 ($7.18/€6.63)
  • 5-6 kg at NOK 83 ($7.66/€7.05)

FishPool forward prices indicate NOK 73 ($6.72/€6.20) for October, NOK 81 ($7.45/€6.89) for November, and NOK 84.50 ($7.77/€7.18) in December, where a price increase is anticipated.
