USD 46 million project unites former Ewos top brass and the Israeli RAS tech company Aquamaof.
Chile is moving closer to its first land-based RAS farm, reports Economia y Negocios. The Bordemar project involves a number of former top tier EWOS management including former CFO Pablo Cabello, consultant and ex-manager of nutrition and research Pablo Forno Stingo, ex-logistics manager Ian Martin as well as the president of ASMAR, the Chilean state-owned shipbuilding company, Cristian Gantes.
The initiative passed an Environmental Impact Statement (DIA) which was approved on Monday – to produce 4,000 tonnes in the first year and then 24,000 tonnes by the third year. Bordemar wrote that it will use commercial quality Premium Grade ova that can grow up to approximately 5 kg in weight.
The facility will be built in heart of Chile’s salmon farming region in the Bio-Bío region, complete with a processing plant.
The investment fund – named BordeMar Private Equity Fund – is associated with Chilean brokerages and asset manager Vantrust Capital which is aiming to raise USD 150 million in capital three years into the project.
Cabello told the publication that he estimates it will have a price premium of USD 1.5 per pound.
