“It’s taken quite a few cups of coffee to get here, but now we’re up and running!” says Factory Manager, Stian Horten.

On September 2, Norwegian salmon producer Måsøval began operations at its newly acquired processing plant on Hitra, previously owned by Mowi.

This acquisition is seen as a strategic investment in local value creation, with the facility safeguarding over 60 jobs in the region.

Mowi ceased operations at the Ulvan plant in December 2023, moving production to its new facility on Jøsnøya. Måsøval completed the acquisition on May 8, 2024, and has since been preparing the plant for full operation.

The facility, now under the leadership of factory manager Stian Horten, will not only process Måsøval’s own fish but also provide additional processing capacity for other producers during peak periods.

“With this, we are continuing an important workplace in the region. Our employees are our most valuable resource,” said Horten.

The plant comes equipped with Mowi’s former operational machinery, and after a summer of fine-tuning, it is now fully operational.

Måsøval sees the acquisition as a vital step for the company’s future and for the local community. “This is a win-win situation,” said Remy Strømskag, Head of Sales and Processing at Måsøval, referring to the plant’s role in supporting the broader industry in the region.
