GM salmon farmer posts $4.2 million loss

AquaBounty hopes for first harvest, delayed from April, in May.

The GM salmon farmer AquaBounty posted its first quarter results with revenues of just USD 0.07 million (EUR 0.06 million) compared to USD 0.007 (EUR 0.005) in the same period of the prior year.

Operating expenses in the first quarter of 2021 were USD 4.2 million (EUR 3.4 million) as compared to USD 3.1 million (EUR 2.5 million) in the same period of the prior year.

Net loss in the first quarter of 2021 was USD 4.2 million (EUR 3.4 million), as compared to USD 3.1 million (EUR 2.5 million) in the same period of the prior year.

AquaBounty has said that its salmon would be available to consumers as soon as this April but now AquaBounty CEO Sylvia Wulf says that “we are confident that all key processes are in place for the launch of our fish during May”.

In February, the land-based salmon farmer raised EUR 105.7 million in gross proceeds in a public offering of equity to further finance the construction its next farm with a planned capacity of 10,000 tonnes.
