Haf Investments acquires NP Innovation to expand aquaculture water treatment portfolio
Haf Investments, an Icelandic private equity fund focused on the seafood sector, has acquired NP Innovation, a Sweden-based provider of water treatment solutions for aquaculture. The acquisition is subject to approval by Iceland’s Competition Authority.
The deal strengthens Haf Investments’ position in sustainable aquaculture, aligning with its strategy to expand its portfolio in technologies that improve fish health and water management. Under its new ownership, NP Innovation plans to expand its product range and pursue organic and strategic growth in both existing and new markets.
“This marks a significant milestone for NP and a natural next step in our growth journey,” said Michael Bäärnhielm, CEO of NP Innovation. “With Haf as our majority owner, we will strengthen our presence in key markets and drive expansion through strategic initiatives.”
Kristrún Augur Vigarsdóttir, CEO of Haf Investments, said the acquisition is based on NP Innovation’s track record of product development and customer focus. “NP’s expertise and innovative culture align with our investment strategy. We see strong potential to develop NP into a global leader in aquaculture water treatment solutions.”
Runólfur Vigar Gunmundsson, CEO of UR Seafood, a cornerstone investor in Haf Investments, emphasized the growing importance of advanced water treatment in aquaculture. “NP Innovation has played a key role in supporting the expansion of land-based salmon farming, particularly in Norway, and is well-positioned to grow further as the industry invests in larger-scale facilities.”
NP Innovation is headquartered in Malmö, Sweden.
