Higher prices ahead: analyst

Industry watchers in Norway have indicated good times ahead for salmon producers, as prices strengthen ahead of Christmas and forecasts for 2018 improve.

“This year we we’ve waited longer than usual for the price rally through to Christmas, and it looks like it’ll come over the next weeks,” said industry analyst, Lage Bohren, of TDN Finans. “At the same time, we think prices will stay quite high into the first quarter of next year, since what supply is coming in 2018 will first hit the market in the second-half (of 2018).”

Prices are expected to stay robust long-term due to a dearth of new license awards. Another analyst confirmed the limits on new licenses are due to Norway’s sea lice woes.
