Highland Smoked Salmon posts 22.6% drop in earnings

Largest privately owned smokehouse in Scotland posts loss.

The Fort William-based smoker Highland Smoked Salmon – which is based next to Mowi Scotland’s plant Blar Mhoh processing plant – has posted its latest annual report for the year ended 30th September 2018 on Companies House.

The 30-year-old company processes over 3000 tonnes of salmon a year and sells its products to European countries, the Far East, India and China.

The company had a 22.6 per cent drop in turnover for 2018, down to GBP 18.4 million from GBP 23.8 million in 2017.

Operating profit was down 32 per cent, from GBP 2.5 million in 2017 to GBP 1.7 million in 2018.
