Hong Kong Air Cargo will launch a new cargo service between Hong Kong and Oslo Airport on September 4, 2024.

This development is expected to bolster trade ties between Norway and Asia, particularly benefiting Norwegian salmon exports, by providing faster and more reliable access to Asian markets.

The move is seen as a strategic expansion of Oslo Airport’s network, enhancing its role as a key logistics hub and offering Norwegian exporters a more competitive edge globally.

The new route underscores the growing demand for efficient transport solutions in Norway’s export-driven sectors.

“This route provides Norwegian exporters, especially in the fisheries sector, with a fast and reliable transport route to Asia, enhancing our competitiveness in the global market,” said Eva Beate Lande, Cargo Director at Avinor, the operator of Oslo Airport.

In contrast, British Airways has announced the suspension of its London-Beijing flights from the end of October 2024 until at least November 2025. The decision, attributed to weakened demand and complications arising from a ban on UK flights over Russian airspace, marks a significant retreat from one of Asia’s key economic hubs. The ban, imposed by Russia in response to UK sanctions related to the Ukraine conflict, has led to longer and less efficient routes, further dampening demand.
