Tasmanian salmon farmer says new site is key to new export opportunities.

In its quarterly magazine The Huon Story, Huon Aquaculture writes that has secured a foothold on Australia’s west coast with the establishment of a new facility in Perth.

The 2,090 m2 site makes value-added products for retail as well as wholesale goods for restaurants and food outlets.

“The site also provides easy access to airfreight which opens up a world of export opportunities, said Huon national processing manager Julie Gillies.

Huon general manager of sales and marketing Callan Paske told the news broadcaster ABC that the site offers a strategic point to expand across the country and beyond.

“We have a site in New South Wales, which has a very similar processing footprint to Forrestdale, which does products up into Queensland, NSW, and some down into Victoria,” he said.

“Even European markets. If we think about direct flights to London, it’s not a market that we tend to go to too often. But potentially WA could open that up for us,” added Paske.
