Iceland’s largest fish meal and fish oil producer Síldarvinnslan has purchased from Cyprus-based Bremesco Holding and three other shareholders a total of 10,899,684 shares, or 34.2 percent, in Icelandic salmon farmer Arctic Fish Holding.
Síldarvinnslan is also a major player in the seafood processing and packaging industry.
Last Friday, Bremesco and fellow shareholders Icelandic Farming Holding, NOVO and Neil Shiran Thorisson announced their intention to sell their shares altogether totalling 10,899,684 shares, worth €107 million. These four shareholders will no longer own any shares in Arctic Fish Holding after the transaction with Síldarvinnslan.
“Salmon farming is a growing industry in Iceland which we have been monitoring for a long period of time. Capital and knowledge has been increasing in the industry and we are of the opinion that there are ample opportunities,” said CEO Gunnþór Ingvason.
“We are purchasing a over a third part in the company, which is in a majority ownership of a Norwegian aquaculture company with extensive knowledge and experience in the field and we are pleased to have the opportunity to work with the current shareholders in the further growth of the company.”
