Japanese revolving sushi belts put on hold during coronavirus outbreak

Halt on all 513 Hamazushi branches in Japan.

Hamazushi, the largest sushi conveyer restaurant chain in Japan, has stopped revolving belts across its stores as shops adjust to the virus risk in Japan, reports Japan Today.

Instead of helping themselves to dishes, customers are being asked to place orders using a touch panel displays installed at each table instead.

The company said that this was to protect their customers and provide them with “peace of mind” during the growing coronavirus outbreak.

However, it has been criticised, with customers asking if the virus can survive touch screens.
