Aquabyte systems to be installed in every pen.

Kaldvík, Iceland’s leading farmed salmon producer, has announced a partnership with Aquabyte, a Bergen-based provider of data-driven fish monitoring technology, in a move aimed at enhancing monitoring and management across Kaldvík’s eight farming sites.

As part of the agreement, Aquabyte’s systems will be installed in every pen, with the two companies also collaborating to develop products specifically suited to Iceland’s fish farming sector.

Kjartan Lindbøl, Chief Operations Officer Sea at Kaldvík, said Aquabyte was chosen after a rigorous benchmarking process. “We selected Aquabyte for its excellence in welfare monitoring, biomass estimation, lice-counting precision, and follow-up on delivery. Strong communication between our organizations was also a decisive factor,” he said.

Aquabyte’s technology is designed to provide real-time data insights, addressing key industry concerns such as fish welfare, biomass measurement, and parasite control. “Kaldvík is forward-thinking, recognising the importance of data-driven practices in fish farming,” said Kamilla Svindseth, Senior Sales Manager at Aquabyte, who added that close data-sharing would help both firms tackle the specific environmental and operational challenges in Iceland.

Kaldvík, which is listed on Euronext Growth Oslo and Nasdaq First North Growth Market Iceland, expects to harvest approximately 17,500 tonnes of salmon this year. Founded in 2017, Aquabyte counts nine of the world’s ten largest aquaculture companies among its clients, providing technology solutions from its headquarters in Bergen, with additional offices in San Francisco and Chile.
