Eco Seafood, a land-based salmon farming company, has signed an agreement to purchase a 40-acre plot on Kråkøya in Nærøysund municipality, Trøndelag, Norway for NOK 20 million ($1.8 million) as part of its first construction phase.

The purchase was reported by Norwegian newspaper Namdalsavisa.

The land is being acquired from Kråkøya Eiendom, which is jointly owned by Nærøysund municipality and Nord-Trøndelag Port Authority Rørvik.

In addition to the initial purchase, Eco Seafood has secured an option agreement to acquire or lease an additional 330 acres for future development.

“This is a significant step from words to action,” Eco Seafood Chairman Jan Anders Syltern told the newspaper.

Based in Rørvik, Eco Seafood holds a license to produce 9,000 tonnes of salmon.
