The wellboat is currently under construction and is expected to be operational by the end of 2024.
Måsøval Service, a subsidiary of Norwegian salmon farmer Måsøval, has entered into a charter agreement with Njord Kya, a subsidiary of Njord Aquashipping, for the wellboat “MS Njord Kya.”
The wellboat is currently under construction and is expected to be operational by the end of 2024. The charter term is for three years, with options for two additional two-year extensions.
This agreement will increase wellboat capacity within the Måsøval group, supporting the company’s production targets and ensuring optimal fish welfare and quality, according to a press release from the company on Wednesday.
The decision to charter “MS Njord Kya” follows an extensive tender process that identified two suitable vessels. “MS Njord Kya” was selected due to its new build status, cost-effectiveness, and superior technical solutions that align with Måsøval’s specifications and needs.
Måsøval emphasized the importance of a thorough tender process, particularly because the chosen provider is a related party to a shareholder in Måsøval (Frøy Kapital).
Njord Aquashipping is controlled by Norwegian aquaculture tycoon Helge Gåsø through his investment vehicle, Frøy Kapital. Gåsø, who has a long history in farming and service vessels, used the settlement from the sale of salmon farming giants NTS and NRS to SalMar to establish Frøy Kapital and re-enter the wellboat sector.
The new wellboat will enhance capacity with features such as combination treatments with freshwater and Thermolicer, and efficient, gentle sorting through a vacuum system.
