MerAlliance’s French factory to expand

1,200 m² plant expansion planned where Petit Navire smoked salmon brand is produced.

French smoked salmon specialists MerAlliance have received a building permit company extend its Quimper (Finistère) factory, reports Ouest-France.

The plant will expand by 1,200 m², increasing the total area to 12,000 m2.

This work will “optimize the industrial performance”. In addition, a program is being launched launched to ensure “” optimized management of energy resources “”.

The company added that its production workforce is set to double in high season (500 employees). Recruitment is underway to fill 150 operator positions for six-month fixed-term contracts.

On the other side of France, rival salmon processor Delpierre closed its Wisches factory in Alsace, after a couple of loss-making years.

In September 2014, MerAlliance was acquired by Thai Union, through its Paris-based subsidiary MW Brands, whose portfolio includes the John West tinned salmon range.
