Monica Galetti appointed as first Scottish seafood ambassador

Seafood from Scotland has appointed TV Chef Monica Galetti as the first ever ambassador for Scottish seafood.

In her role, Galetti will encourage buyers, restaurant owners and chefs across the UK to purchase and serve more seafood from Scotland by promoting its quality, flavour and versatility. Preparing for the role, she has travelled around the country, meeting people at all stages of the supply chain including oyster growers, fish smokers, salmon farmers and more.

“As an industry we have a collective responsibility to introduce different species to consumers, in a way that encourages them to look beyond the familiar. For me, Scottish seafood is synonymous with the best quality in the world, and we definitely need to be shouting about it,” Galetti said.

Galetti’s position as ambassador is part of Seafood from Scotland’s wider Sea the People campaign, designed to promote the quality of Scotland’s seafood and the people who produce it.

“The Scottish seafood industry depends on the men and women who devote their lives to the craft. I am in awe of their knowledge and skills, and their commitment to provenance at every stage of the supply chain,” Galetti said.

“Scotland’s fishing industry is one of the oldest in the country and many businesses have been handed down the generations. Our campaign will showcase the knowledge and wisdom that has been cultivated and passed on over hundreds of years in businesses, families and communities, resulting in the premium quality seafood that Scotland produces day after day,” Adam Wing, Head of Trade Marketing for the UK, Americas & New Markets, said.
