Mowi appoints Chief Sustainability Officer

Marine biologist Catarina Martins has been appointed to role.

In a press release on Friday, the salmon farmer writes that Catarina Martins has been appointed to the position of Chief Sustainability Officer.

Martins has a MSc in Marine Biology from Lisbon University in Portugal, a PhD in Animal Sciences from Wageningen University in the Netherlands and a MBA in Global Seafood from Norwegian School of Economics. In addition, Catarina has supplementary education in Corporate Sustainability and other relevant education from Harvard University in the USA. She has both a scientific and business background that are of importance in this position. During the past five years, Martins has worked as Mowi’s Group Manager of Environment and Sustainability.

“Following Mowi’s strategy of being a leading integrated seafood provider and to support our MOWI branding strategy, we have identified a need to strengthen the area of sustainability. Mowi is a company that is living and producing in close cooperation with nature, and our success depends on sustainable and environmentally responsible interactions with the natural environment. A vital part of the CSO’s responsibility is to strengthen and implement Mowi’s sustainability strategy,” the company wrote.

Mowi wrote that the Group Management Team will primarily be located at the headquarter in Bergen, Norway. Chief Strategy Officer Glenn Flanders who resides in the USA steps out of the team but will continue in his current role. “Going forward he will spend even more time on investor relations activities in the Americas and Asia,” Mowi added.
