Mowi to close French salmon processor in first wave of cost cutting plans

Mowi to close its Kritsen Châteaulin site in Brittany.

Ouest France reports that Mowi management announced have told staff at its Kritsen Châteaulin (Finistère) site that it is to close.

The site which produces salmon based products such as terrine currently employs 26 employees, 24 of whom are on indeterminate contracts and are mainly in production.

An employee told the publication that it was “hard news to hear and hurts” but it was a surprise either. “In the absence of investments in the Châteaulin plant for several years. We had signs,” they said.

The announcement marks the first of Mowi’s proposed cuts. The salmon farmer is targeting a ten per-cent reduction in headcount for Mowi as-is by 2024.
