Adapts tech for smaller fish.

For the first time ever at Mowi, the team from Canada East has successfully treated salmon of 250g using a thermolicer.

The “360 Commander” vessel has been fitted with the tech. Previously, the standard starting weight to use this particular treatment was 500g. A thermolicer is a water-based removal treatment used to treat sea lice on farmed salmon.

“This is a real step forward for us in terms of our fish health programme, said Mowi Canada East fish health and welfare director Amanda Borchardt. She explained why this is such a significant milestone in the salmon farmer’s newsletter Insight.

“We have a range of tools available to us to manage the challenges presented by sea lice but in Canada East, we have found using a thermolicer to be extremely effective. If we can treat fish so early in their lifecycle, then it means we are giving them the best start to grow and develop into strong healthy salmon,” said Borchardt.
