Mowi’s Ducktrap faces lawsuit from consumer advocacy group over “deceptive marketing and advertising of smoked salmon”

Action filed by Richman Law Group on behalf of Organic Consumers Association (OCA), in D.C. Superior Court under D.C. Consumer Protection Procedures Act.

In a press release, the Organic Consumers Association (OCA) have filed suit against Mowi USA and Mowi Ducktrap for the alleged “deceptive marketing and advertising of smoked Atlantic salmon products sold under the Ducktrap River of Maine brand.”

Organic Consumers Association (OCA) is an advocacy group that disparages large scale agriculture which isn’t 100 per-cent organic.

The action, a consumer protection case, was filed by Richman Law Group on behalf of OCA, in D.C. Superior Court under D.C. Consumer Protection Procedures Act.

The lawsuit is looking into the marketing around Ducktrap products which have the words ‘All Natural’ on the package, and also that they are smoked “from Maine” and “from the coast of Maine” but the fish are not raised in the state.

“We have not been notified or received any documents so we have no comment at this time,” a Mowi spokesperson told SalmonBusiness.
