New price push – close to €6 per kilo again

The market is tightening a the salmon price rises for the third week in a row.

“They want it up 3-5 kroner (EUR 0.3-0.5),” said an importer. “It’s a little early. We will see how it develops. There is a lot of fish on the integrated ones. They decide what will happen,” he added.

Every Friday after lunch, SalmonBusiness report spot prices for salmon. These are fish to be delivered the following week. We contact several links in the value chain, including farmers, exporters and importers, and always have at least five independent sources, although not all sources are necessarily displayed. We vary the sources we use and do not use the same sources each time.

«3-6 kg. 59/61/63», wrote an exporter in an SMS to SalmonBusiness.

“Prices go up a bit again,” agreed another exporter.

He referred to the following farmgate prices for salmon to be delivered in the coming week:

  • 2-3 kg NOK 53 (EUR 5.1)
  • 3-4 kg NOK 58 (EUR 5.6)
  • 4-5 kg NOK 60 (EUR 5.8)
  • 5-6 kg NOK 62 (EUR 6.0)
  • 6+ kg NOK 65 (EUR 6.5)

“It is a solid increase. Three to four kroner (EUR 0.4) on average. It seems like there is a little less fish towards the end of the week. We have bought a little at those prices,” he added.

Most of the industrial sources refer to average prices around EUR 5.8-5.9, which corresponds to about EUR 0.3-0.4 up from last Friday.

But some also see even higher prices.

“We have not sold anything yet, but a trader offered us exactly 61, 62 and 65 kroner (EUR 5.9, 6.1 and 6.4 for 3-6 kg – editor’s note) at our processing plant in the north (of Norway),” said a fish farmer.
