Vet Claudio Báez Beltrán takes over.

A new director has been appointed to the director of Chile’s aquaculture authority Sernapesca. He replaces lawyer Jessica Fuentes Olmos had the role since January.

President of the Republic Sebastián Piñera appointed him to the position. Before, Báez served as Regional Director of Sernapesca Biobío. The role includes enforcing the country’s salmon farming policy.

“I am convinced that we can make adjustments, but in general terms, the focus will continue to be on: risk controls, promoting regulatory compliance, closeness to our users and continuing to advance in institutional modernization,” said Beltrán in a statement.

Former director Alicia Gallardo was promoted to the top role of Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture back in January.
