Nordic Aquafarms to extend giant land-based plant

The site is to grow by 14 acres.

Nordic Aquafarms has entered into an agreement with Belfast, Maine, USA, window manufacturer Mathews Brothers for the purchase of the land as reported in The Republican Journal.

The company already has the 40 acres under contract with Belfast Water District.

The additional 14 acres will enables an increase between a buffer zone between the project and the lower reservoir dam and existing trails.

Nordic Aquafarms CEO Erik Heim said that “the additional land will make this a better project, not a bigger one.”

The company plans to construct a facility with an annual capacity in the range of 32,000 metric tons, to be built in phases over the next six to seven years. Construction is expected to start in 2019, the company said, with “first-fish” in 2020.
