Norwegian mycoprotein company Norwegian Mycelium (NoMy) has expanded into the Japanese market with the launch of NoMy Japan KK, based in Sapporo.
The company also introduced its upcycling service, MycoPrime, which uses fermentation technology and artificial intelligence to process food industry by-products.
NoMy Japan has established partnerships with Nippon Beet Sugar Manufacturing Co. Ltd., Japan’s largest sugar beet producer, and is collaborating on a feasibility study with Hokuren, Hokkaido’s primary agricultural cooperative.
These partnerships are aimed at extending NoMy’s core fermentation technologies within the Japanese food sector, with a focus on processing sidestreams from the industry.
The launch of MycoPrime marks NoMy’s first international venture to provide a scalable upcycling solution, designed to integrate with existing food industry operations and offer licensable services for broader applications. Further partnerships within Japan are expected, though no additional details were disclosed.
