Rainbow Trout Escape Reported in Vestland

The Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries has received a report of an escape incident at a fish farm in Vestland county.

Tombre Fiskeanlegg reported the escape on Monday, February 3, at its Litletveitsholane site in Sørfjorden, located in Osterøy municipality.

According to the Directorate of Fisheries, the company discovered significant damage to a net pen. Recapture nets have been deployed at the site, but the extent of the escape remains unclear. The escaped fish have an average weight of approximately 700 grams.

The Directorate has announced that it will follow up on the incident with an inspection.

Tombre Fiskeanlegg is a family-owned Norwegian aquaculture company specializing in the farming of Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout. Established in 1971 by Per Tombre, the company began with the cultivation of 500 rainbow trout in Skogseidvatnet, Hålandsdalen.

Over the decades, it has expanded its operations across regions including Bjørnafjorden, Hardanger, Samnanger, Osterøy, Fedje, and Sogn. Currently, Tombre Fiskeanlegg produces approximately 12,500 tonnes of seafood annually.
