NZ King Salmon recalled due to listeria fears

Recall a “precautionary measure” say salmon farmer.

New Zealand King Salmon has recalled a specific batch of its Southern Ocean brand New Zealand King Salmon Smoked Pieces and Regal Marlborough King Salmon brand Cold Smoked Salmon as they may contain Listeria monocytogenes bacteria, as reported in Stuff.co.nz.

The affected batch is coded with M362D or M362N. The recall did not apply to any other Regal Marlborough or Southern Ocean brand products.

The recall was a precautionary measure after test results for a single sample in the affected batch suggested it contained listeria, the publication added.

Andrew Clark, chief financial officer of New Zealand King Salmon, said: “We have conducted testing of a further 60 samples, where listeria was not detected. This indicates that contamination, if present, is at very low level.”

“However, based on this single abnormal result we are taking the precautionary action of recalling the whole batch.”
