Oil rig yard to build offshore cages for NRS

Aker Solutions is part of holding company Aker group (including Aker Biomarine) engaged in offshore fishing, construction, engineering and increasingly salmon.

Aker Solutions has signed a contract with Arctic Offshore Farming, a subsidiary of Norway Royal Salmon (NRS), for the assembly of two large steel farmed salmon cages.

The shipping and offshore drilling conglomerate Aker group is controlled by billionaire and former-fisherman Kjell Inge Røkke.

The assembly of the salmon cages will be carried out at Aker Solutions’ yard in Verdal, Central Norway. The agreement has a value of EUR 3.7 million, according to stock exchange announcements from both companies.

Together with NRS, Aker has developed the design for Arctic Offshore Farming, which is intended for exposed-sites and demanding conditions.

Monday’s contract will be the first delivery of such a facility for the company. Furthermore, it says that Aker Solutions has identified the aquaculture industry as a market with several interesting prospects.
