Ballangen Sjofarm has taken down the predator nets over their net-pens.

“In cooperation with Vestflow, we’ve developed a unique laser system against birds,” Rautios manager, Gunnar Vikestrand, told SalmonBusiness.

“Trials of the laser against seabirds has been a success at Ballangen Sjofarm. The first laser that was installed on December 19th, 2017. There haven’t been any birds at the facility since the laser came into use. They have now removed the (predator) nets over the pens and can look forward to a less labour-intensive workday,” he said, adding that since then Rautios has delivered the laser system to 14 facilities with food feedback from their customers.

The laser comes with software, a remote control and a 12-volt battery pack. The program offers several alternatives and can be set for desired area. The continuous laser then moves around automatically.

After dark, the laser can be turned off if necessary. The battery charges via power grid or solar panel.
