The market is improving, especially for larger fish.

“We’re seeing at least a NOK 2 ($0.19/€0.17) increase from the lowest levels last Friday, for customers in Central Europe,” a producer tells SalmonBusiness

He provided the following salmon prices for the upcoming week:

2-3 kg: NOK 55 ($5.17/€4.68)

3-4 kg: NOK 65 ($6.11/€5.53)

4-5 kg: NOK 68-69 ($6.39-6.48/€5.78-5.87)

5-6 kg: NOK 75 ($7.05/€6.38)

Higher Average

“In my world, volumes are increasing into the next week. But we’re seeing a higher average in the groups, much more in the 4-5 kg and 5-6 kg range,” says a trader.

“It’s about a couple of kroner up, especially for 4 kg and above, not for small fish. There’s a lot of small fish, and it’s a tough situation for those,” says a buyer.

He expects the following price range for next week:

2-3 kg: NOK 52-53 ($4.89-4.98/€4.42-4.51)

3-4 kg: NOK 64 ($6.02/€5.44)

4-5 kg: NOK 68 ($6.39/€5.78) 5-6 kg: NOK 72 ($6.77/€6.12)

6+ kg: NOK 85-90 ($7.99-8.46/€7.23-7.65)

Pressure on Smaller Fish

“There’s strong demand. There’s not much large fish available. But there’s a lot of small fish due to ISA (Infectious Salmon Anemia). There’s pressure on that. And it will probably be like that for a couple of weeks, I believe,” he says.

The prices are confirmed by several sources.

“Yes, I can confirm those levels. An increase of around NOK 2 ($0.19/€0.17) for 3-6 kg fish. 3-4 kg at NOK 64 ($6.02/€5.44), 4-5 kg at NOK 67 ($6.29/€5.70), and 5-6 kg at NOK 72 ($6.77/€6.12),” another exporter tells SalmonBusiness.

SalmonBusiness gathers spot prices for salmon every Friday after lunch, tracking fish to be delivered the following week. This process involves contacting multiple entities in the value chain, including farmers, exporters, and importers. At least five independent sources are consulted, though they may not always be publicly disclosed.
