Land-based salmon producer Proximar Seafood has made its first export of Fuji Atlantic salmon from its facility in Oyama, Japan, to Taiwan, marking a milestone in the company’s entry into regional Asian markets.

The announcement was made following a launch event in Taoyuan on March 20, held in collaboration with trading partner Marubeni and Taiwanese distributor Tamsuo. The event was attended by over 100 guests, including more than 20 media outlets and three television networks, according to Proximar.

The fish, grown in a closed-loop Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) at the foot of Mount Fuji, are produced without antibiotics and with over 99.7% of water recycled.

Proximar said the system enables precise control of environmental parameters, reduces the risk of parasites, and delivers a sashimi-grade product with a shorter supply chain and up to 50% lower transport emissions compared to imported salmon.

The fish will be sold through high-end restaurants and selected retail channels in Taiwan. The company framed the launch as a step toward a more sustainable, regionally integrated aquaculture model in Asia.

Explore’s CEO, Chung Cheng-nan, said the launch represents a shift toward data-driven aquaculture in Taiwan, aiming to transform traditional farming practices into a capital- and technology-intensive sector.

The salmon is now available through select distribution channels and high-end restaurants in Taiwan.
