Proximar Seafood AS has announced the appointment of Yoshihito Ito as Managing Director of its Japanese subsidiary, Proximar Ltd., effective December 2.

Ito joins Proximar with 24 years of senior management experience at Nutreco and Skretting, where he most recently served as General Manager for Skretting Japan and Nutreco Japan. His expertise spans aquaculture operations and production, with a particular focus on the Japanese market.

“I am pleased to have Mr. Ito join Proximar,” said Joachim Nielsen, CEO of Proximar Seafood AS. “His extensive aquaculture knowledge and management experience, both international and local, will be instrumental as we transition from a project-based company to a full production entity.”

Before his tenure at Skretting, Ito worked for Nippon Roche K.K. and was part of the Roche Group’s global aquaculture expert team. He holds a Master of Science in Fisheries from Kagoshima University in Japan.

The appointment comes at a critical time for Proximar, which completed its first harvest at its land-based salmon farming facility at the foot of Mount Fuji in September 2024.

Proximar’s brand, Fuji Atlantic Salmon, was officially launched in October 2024 at the Tokyo headquarters of its partner, Marubeni Corporation.

Proximar’s first production facility began operations in October 2022, with its inaugural harvest in September 2024.
