New increase in biomass

Some 755,000 tonnes of salmon were swimming in Norwegian fish farms at the end of October. It is the highest level ever recorded and ten percent above the biomass of 12 months earlier.

The appraisal was prepared by Akvafakta, an arm of the Norwegian Seafood Federation.

Biomass growth is driven by good conditions in the sea.

Meanwhile, feed sales totaled 199,000 t in October, or 15 percent more than during the same month a year ago.

While feeding and the replenishment of biomass were high, slaughter and fish removals were much lower. Scheduled export volumes were 112,000.

As a result of the biomass count, a significant increase in processed volumes and therefore the supply of salmon is expected in coming months.
