Russian ban on salmon imports continues.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is extending the import ban on food from the EU and other Western countries for another year, reports the Russian news agency TASS.

On Saturday Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree extending certain special economic measures against countries that have imposed sanctions on the Russian Federation until December 31, 2021.

In August 2014 Europe’s biggest market for salmon and trout disappeared. The EU, US, Canada, and Norway imposed trade sanctions against Russia after it invaded the Crimean peninsula of Ukraine. Russia responded by imposing import bans on a variety of goods, including fish.

Last year, the Norwegian Seafood Council calculated the industry had lost around EUR 2 billion since the ban came into force.
