Salmon escape in Chile – as many as 30,000 thought to be involved

The Chilean fisheries service has confirmed it went to a site in the Calbuco region.

Early indications point to a cage that broke with more than 32,000 salmon in it.

It happened at the Huito Cultivation Centre, which is run by the Salmones Aysen company.

Sernapesca tweeted that its regional director had been sent to the site to investigate. It added a later tweet saying that it was discussing with Salmones Aysen how to re-capture the escaped fish.

It is not known if any salmon has so far been recovered.
