Pink fish billionaires.
The financial magazine Kapital published on Thursday morning its annual overview of Norway’s 400 richest people. As a function of high salmon prices, the list has received an ever-increasing share of people who have made themselves rich because of the salmon farming trade.
John Fredriksen takes the throne as usual at the top of the list. Mowi’s largest shareholder, who is a Cypriot citizen, is the only one with more than EUR 9 billion in wealth.
As many as 45 people with ties to the Norwegian aquaculture industry are billionaires, according to this list. Put another way, 11.25 per-cent of the country’s billionaires do business related to salmon.
