Salmon price stable at the year’s highest level

Last Friday, the farmed salmon was traded at the highest levels of the year. The price won’t go down next week.

“It looks ok. Roughly stable,” says one exporter about next week’s salmon price. [factbox]

This means average prices for fish farmers between € 7 and 8 per kilo. And over €9 for the heaviest salmon.

Going sideways
“6+ must fly (overseas). In Europe, you don’t get that price,” he notes to iLaks.

“It’s the same as we paid this week. But it’s a little more nervous next week. Everyone knows the fall is coming soon. It is not the market that has this price, it is because we do not have harvest days,” he explains.

Several sources point out that the market is nervous, not least since more harvesting is expected next week.

Another world
“It’s quiet,” says a buyer about today’s salmon trade.

“6+ is the sky is the limit if packed into aircargo (overseas). If not (in aircargo) a whole different world.”

The current price level for salmon is the highest recorded in a year and a half.
