High sales activity and slaughter volumes.
“A small correction,” says an exporter about next week’s salmon price. “NOK 60-61 (EUR 5.9-6.0) for 3-4, NOK 62-63 (EUR 6.1-6.2) for 4-5, NOK 63-64 (EUR 6.2-6.3) for 5-6,” he says, adding that 5-6 kg can be “slightly higher”.
“The big ones (fish farmers – ed. note) control the volumes,” he tells SalmonBusiness.[factbox]
Adjust
The price drop comes for the fourth week in a row.
“Slow week. Lower part of the 60s, NOK 63-65 (EUR 6.2-6.4) in Oslo,” says an exporter about the most traded weight classes.
“In any case, it’s not up. You can adjust it down a bit from this week. It may be a krone, but not much more. A lot of fish are harvested, not much of the large sizes, and we will probably struggle with that later (with high prices – editor’s note).”
The customers decide
“Lots of leftover fish. Public holiday next Friday in Poland and France. The market is difficult. The uncertainty is great. Economic downturns. War in Europe. The purchasing power is lower. The customers decide the price,” a trader sums up.
He refers to the following farmgate prices:
- 2-3 kg NOK 52 (EUR 5.1)
- 3-4 kg NOK 60 (EUR 5.9)
- 4-5 kg NOK 62 (EUR 6.1)
- 5-6 kg NOK 64 (EUR 6.3)
- 6+ kg NOK 68-70 (EUR 6.7-6.9)
“Unsettled,” says a buyer about the market. “A lot of fish has been sold at very strong prices, but now it stops due to freezing.”
“There is definitely a decrease,” he says of the price. “The only question is how much.”
