Iceland’s Samherji, a leading fishing and aquaculture company, will break ground next month on an expansive salmon farm project near Reykjavik.

Announced by Chairman Baldvin Þorsteinsson at a Deloitte maritime event, the facility will eventually produce 40,000 tonnes annually and is expected to create over 100 jobs.

The farm, requiring an investment of over $250 million and featuring its own power plant, represents Samherji’s largest single project. Samherji is also modernizing its fishing fleet to reduce its carbon footprint. Þorsteinsson noted that recent reinvestment in vessels and facilities has helped maintain the company’s competitive edge, with continued growth driven by global salmon demand.

Construction on the initial phase will commence with a groundbreaking ceremony on November 15.
