Exports of all of the top 10 products increased by value in Q1 2019, with Scottish salmon enjoying 41% growth.

Foodstuffs from Scotland led the way to a surge in exports of food and drink from the UK during the first three months of this year.

The figures released by the Food and Drink Federation (and compiled from data published by HM Revenue and Customs) showed that total UK exports by firms in the sector were up more than 10% on the start of 2018.

Salmon surged – with a growth of 40.9 per cent – a rise of GBP 60 million – representing a 20 per cent increase in the volume of farmed salmon being exported from Scotland.
