Salmon farmer yet to comment on or confirm numbers.
According to Sernapesca, authorities received notification from the company on December 27, that there had been damages to the cages at the Tubildad site in the Los Lagos Region. Now there are reports in La Tercera that the Chincuy site has been affected.
Sernapesca, ordered salmon farmer Ventisqueros to activate a contingency plan after it reported damages to cages due to a tidal surge and strong currents.
As a result of this situation, Sernapesca filed two complaints: “On December 31, we filed two complaints, the first to the Superintendency of the Environment for the escape of salmon in Tubildad and the second for the escape of salmon in Chincuy,” said the Regional director of the agency, Branny Montecinos.
Until now Ventisqueros has not reported how many salmon are missing from their farms and have gone as far to say that said no fish have escaped.
