Skretting opens LifeStart production line in China to support aquaculture growth
Skretting has opened its first dedicated LifeStart production line in Asia with the launch of a new facility in Zhuhai, China. The move is part of the company’s strategy to expand its presence in the world’s largest animal protein market.
The new production line, inaugurated on 17 April 2025, will focus on hatchery feeds for salmon, tilapia, golden pompano, snakehead, and catfish. Skretting also introduced five new LifeStart products designed to improve fry resilience, disease resistance, and growth rates.
“China is one of the most dynamic and competitive markets globally, not just in scale, but in speed of development, diversity of species, and evolving customer needs,” said Bastiaan van Tilburg, CEO of Skretting. “Our ambition in LifeStart in China is high. We aim to be the undisputed leader in this space by 2030, particularly for salmonids, shrimp and marine fish,” he added.
LifeStart feeds are designed for larvae, juveniles, and broodstock to enhance performance throughout the production cycle. The opening of the new facility reflects Skretting and parent company Nutreco’s commitment to China’s aquaculture sector as it transitions to more advanced and sustainable farming practices.
“Customers are looking for more precise nutrition, better health support, and trusted brands,” said Jason Yang, General Manager of Nutreco China. “All of these align with Skretting’s global strengths.”
Skretting operates production facilities in 18 countries and is part of Nutreco, headquartered in Stavanger, Norway.
